1. 13th Annual Cardiovascular Research Convergence 2023

Jointly organized by AIIMS New Delhi and CSIR-IGIB at the IGIB Mathura Road Campus, the conference focused on taking cardiovascular research from bench to bedside. Starting with the welcome address by the directors of both institutes, where they highlighted the importance of collaboration in science and therefore encouraged more such collaborations between the two institutes in the future. There were workshops on bioinformatics and amyloid, as well as informative and thorough case presentations, a quiz, and Q&A sessions.

  1. Workshop on Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Microscopy

A two-day workshop was conducted at CSIR-IGIB on fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy. Dr. Sobhan Sen from JNU and Dr. Sudipta Maiti from TIFR Mumbai, two excellent teachers and experts in the field, delivered lectures and conducted hands-on sessions for the researchers. 

  1. An exciting talk on Targeting transcriptional addictions in cancer

Deo Prakash Pandey, a researcher at Oslo University Hospital, delivered a lecture on the topic “Targeting transcriptional addictions in cancer” at Mathura Road Campus, CSIR-IGIB. He discussed his research on glioblastoma and how glioma-specific transcription and cell cycle progression can be disrupted by CDK12/CDK13 suppression. This research has the potential to significantly advance glioblastoma treatment.

  1. Genetic Investigation Camp

A genetic testing camp was conducted from October 3 to October 30 for motor neurone disease in partnership with the Dr. Shyama Narang Foundation and the BRAINS Superspeciality Hospital in Bangalore.

  1. Mental Health Awareness Day

Marking the importance of good mental health and raising awareness on the matter, books about and by individuals with mental illness were showcased on a book shelf, available for all to read. These stories aim at indicating the immense work and creativity of people despite mental suffering.

  1. Jigyasa Lab@Home event in Bijnor

The outreach team at CSIR-IGIB visited Bijnor, UP. The team interacted with more than 250 students from many different schools in the district. The volunteers conducted a Lab@Home event where each student learned genomic DNA isolation from their saliva and did hands-on work on the same. 

  1. 51 st SSBMT Zonal-1 Sports Event Report, Bhavnagar, Gujarat

The Central Salt and Marine Chemical Research Institute (CSMCRI) in Bhavnagar organized

the tournament, known as the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Memorial Tournament (SSBMT), from October 17th to 19th, in memory of the founder Director General of CSIR. Both students and staff from CSIR-IGIB participated in various sports activities like badminton, table tennis, bridge, and carrom. The IGIB team was honored with the Best March Past Award. In table tennis, our players secured the first position in both singles and doubles events, allowing them to compete in future rounds.

  1. Dyslexia Awareness Month

Nandini Chatterjee Singh, Senior National Project Officer  at UNESCO-MGIEP delivered a talk on dyslexia. 

Shalini Sachidanandan also shared her life journey with dyslexia. 

  1. Spatial Genomics/mERFISH talk by Vizgen

Vizgen team members from the Asia-Pacific region conducted a seminar series at CSIR-IGIB. The seminar provided an overview of MERFISH technology and its applications in biological research.
