As part of our continued efforts to connect with young minds, at the tail end of the OWOL program we organised a Hands-on Workshop on Zebrafish Techniques. We got an overwhelming response at the application stage itself and we had to select a small compact group since this was going to be a very hands-on activity.
The students, mostly doing a Masters course, engaged in observation and performing of a series of experiments ranging from microinjections to RNA in situ hybridisation assisted by our own IGIB student-mentors. There were technical talks by IGIB student-mentors and teaching sessions by scientist-mentors.
As part of the workshop we ran two contests: an idea that can be addressed using zebrafish and an art competition expressing their thoughts after the workshop. First surprise was that every participant participated! Second was that, we unintentionally picked entries from the same participant for the idea and art competition!
Here, we are publishing the winning art entry from Vanshika Mistry. We are also sharing the beautiful drawing by IGIB participant Mohd Aaquib who got a Special Mention. Elizabeth Antoney and Aayushi Gupta wrote poems featuring zebrafish.

Overall, our students were exhausted by the end of it but a question of ‘should we do this again’ got a resounding ‘YES!’ for response.
